Abstract
The project target is to provide an overview on the regulations and private requirements in the field of organic agriculture.
A database had been elaborated to inform about legal provisions and the most relevant private standards for organic products regarding Germany’s most relevant import and export countries. Various national legal requirements for production, processing, labelling and inspection of organic products are described in a comprehensible language and a comparison to the EU-Regulation on organic agriculture is provided. In addition there is information on the standards of certification bodies being predominant on the respective local markets. Original versions of the regulations and standards, where available in German and English translation, as well as a large number of address data of inspection/ certification bodies and authorities completes the information.
Target groups are trading and processing companies interested in organic products as well as consulting organizations, inspection bodies and authorities.
The countries had been selected on the basis of an analysis of available import/export statistics for organic products in Germany. The data had been published by a database accessible by the internet. The database had been updated in May and October 2003.

Keywords: standards, guidelines, regulations, legislation, international, import, export, non-EU countries, Third countries

Relevance to our study:
Although this study is rather old, it gives a good overview on the present import regime for organic products from non-EU countries into the EU. The method of analysis of this study can be taken into consideration for WP 2, Task 2.5.
